IMTAL PEOPLE

 

IMTAL-Europe is a subscription membership organisation open to individuals and to institutions from anywhere in Europe.  Members include those who perform, programme and curate all forms of live interpretation and museum theatre as well as students and academic researchers. At present our membership includes over a hundred representatives from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland,  Eire, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, France, Germany and Israel.  Members are offered the opportunity to create a profile on this website.

 

DIRECTORS

 

IMTAL-Europe is managed by a board of directors. Directors are volunteers and are elected to the board at the Annual General Meeting.  Their role is to promote live interpretation and museum theatre and represent IMTAL and its members.  They:

 

• Communicate regularly with other board members

• Attend 3 board meetings a year

• Compile 3 newsletters a year

• Prepare the Annual General Meeting

• Organise development, networking and training days

• Organise the biannual IMTAL Europe Conference

• Co-organise the biannual Global Conference with IMTAL-Americas and IMTAP-Asia Pacific

 

Current Directors:

 

Anna Farthing (Chair)

Anna Farthing is the founding director of Harvest Heritage Arts and Media, based in Bristol UK. Anna studied Drama at Bristol University, Commedia dell’Arte in Italy and opera directing at The Banff Centre in Canada. She writes, directs and produces drama in many forms for live performance and recorded media. Anna has a particular interest in engaging audiences with sensitive or neglected histories and is currently completing doctoral research in this area with Manchester University.

David Mosley (Treasurer and Company Secretary)

An escaped teacher, David brought the railway story to life at the National Railway Museum for generations of schoolchildren before becoming part of Platform 4. He has since shared his knowledge and skills as a writer and presenter in places as far afield as Guernsey and Hull. David is based near York and has links with Derbyshire.


Lynne Ashton (Membership Secretary)

Founder and driving force behind the Guernsey History In Action Company (GHIAC). Initially developed as part of the interpretation programme for Guernsey Museums, this locally based Company has a portfolio of over 30 carefully researched, informative and entertaining presentations which tell the Island stories. Lynne lives in Guernsey and has links in France and Italy.

Oliver Klaukien (European Liaison)

Oliver is director of museum theatre and living history at the Hessenpark open air museum near Frankfurt in Germany. After securing a masters degree in archaeology he trained and worked as an actor. At Hessenpark Oliver co-ordinates performers, storytellers and re-enactors, as well as devising and staging events in 150 buildings across a site of 100 acres. Since 1998 he has also performed with the company that he founded, Lunel Museum and Science Theatre.

Emily Capstick (Editor of IMTAL's Insights newsletter)

Emily is joint Company Director of Peoplescape Theatre and is based in Manchester UK. She has been working in museum theatre for the last 14 years as a writer, researcher, director, actor, facilitator and maker. Emily has a special interest in work for early years and those with special needs. She has developed performances through partnership with fifteen different organisations including the People's History Museum, The Manchester Museum, Museum of London, London Transport Museum and Staircase House.

Chris Gidlow (Board Member)

Chris is Live Interpretation Manager for England’s Historic Royal Palaces. For eleven years he has been bringing to life the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kew Palace, Kensington Palace and Banqueting House White Hall. He learnt on the job and can still be seen occasionally in costume. Chris is also an author, specialising in the history and legends of King Arthur, and designs historical board games in any spare time.


IMTAL events and activities are open to non-members, but membership confers several benefits, including:

 

Reduced participation fees for conferences, training events and networking activities.

 

Newsletters three times a year, with opportunities both to receive and contribute to articles of interest regarding developments in the field.  These have included research reports, book reviews, accounts of lessons learned, marketing opportunities and articles from suppliers of professional services.

 

Access to the mailing list to request advice, support and information from other members in the network.
